St. Patrick's Day: Five Fun Ways to Spend it With Your Kids

Who says you have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Well, clearly this MamiBear is not. As a child, however, I remember attending the local St. Patrick's Day Parade in my neighborhood and loving it. The food, the music, the kilts...such good times. Not to mention the cute little leprechauns and rainbows you see everywhere.

Well, it's been a long time since I've gone to a St. Patrick's Day parade but I still want to be able to celebrate the holiday with my ositos from the comfort of our own home.  To that end, I've come up with 5 fun ways you can spend St. Patrick's Day with your kids at home. Take a look...

1. Play a Game - Ever heard of an Easter Egg Hunt? Well, why not hunt for a Pot O' Gold instead? You can fill up a jar with candy and hide it somewhere in your house or yard. You can even add some money to it because what child doesn't like money? You can get as creative as you like with your Pot O' Gold.  There are many cute ideas on the web for decorating your treat bags.

2. Do an Arts and Crafts Activity - So many cute choices to pick from. Here a few of my favorite:
  • Create a Leprechaun Trap to catch those little feisty leprechauns
  • Create a rainbow using Fruit Loops cereal
  • Make a Leprechaun's face using paper plates or your own hand using finger paint
  • Make a 4 leaf clover necklace
  • Make a 4 leaf clover man

3. Make a fun themed Snack - Again, there's so many cute ideas to choose from.  I've narrowed down my favorites that are quick and easy:
  • Shamrock shaped sugar cookies
  • Green colored popcorn
  • Mint Chocolate Chip ice-cream
  • Shamrock shaped grilled cheese
  • Shamrock sprinkled cupcakes

4. Leprechaun Mischief - This has become as popular as the Christmas Elf! The night before St. Patrick's Day, you prepare for the leprechauns arrival by prepping your house with a little leprechaun mischief.  Here are a few ideas but the possibilities are endless:
  • leave little green footprints all around the house
  • turn over chairs, picture frames, and books
  • leave cabinet doors open
  • turn the toilet water green
  • leave underwear on ceiling fan
  • throw toilet paper around the house
Warning: The more mischief you create in your home,  the more you'll have to clean up! Just saying...

5. Dress the Part - What's a celebration these days without a good photo op? The dollar store has tons of great finds that are very budget friendly. You can go as crazy and wild as you like.

I hope this helps! Enjoy and...
